Azerbaijan's Growing Industrial Design Sector

Industrial design in Azerbaijan has undergone significant development in recent years. Educational institutions in the country are building a strong infrastructure to support progress in this sector. The Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU) established the Industrial Design and Technology Institute in 2021 to conduct applied research in this field. Additionally, institutions like the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) and Khazar University offer undergraduate and graduate programs in industrial design. These universities provide education in various areas, including graphic design, interior design, environmental design, and fashion design, contributing to the training of skilled professionals in the sector.

Azerbaijan-Milan University (AZMIU), in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano, has taken design education to an international level. With modern facilities such as the Rapid Prototyping Laboratory, students are offered hands-on training opportunities. The Azerbaijan-Italian Design Center within AZMIU also strengthens industry interaction by organizing workshops, seminars, and competitions with design students and professionals.

International collaborations play a significant role in the development of industrial design as well. The Italy-Azerbaijan University and ADA University, in partnership with prestigious institutions such as Politecnico di Milano and Luiss University, offer joint programs, providing Azerbaijani students with opportunities for world-class education.

However, fewer than 200 design graduates are produced annually in Azerbaijan. This indicates an increasing demand for experienced professionals in the sector. The country aims to train more experts in industrial design and strengthen sectoral collaborations, which will enhance its competitive strength in the field. These developments will provide Azerbaijan with an opportunity to play a bigger role in the industrial design sector.
